“What Happens if We Leave Afghanistan?” This was the title on the front page of the Time Magazine issue of August 9th of 2010 . The finer print on the same page stated:
“Aisha, 18, had her ears and nose cut off last year on orders from the Taliban because she fled abusive in-laws”.
Inside the magazine, the story is described with this title: “Afghan women and the return of the Taliban”. The story goes on as: “The Taliban pounded on the door, just before midnight, demanding that Aisha, 18, be punished for running away from her husbands house. They dragged her to a mountain clearing near her village in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, ignoring her protests that her in-laws had been abusive, that she had no choice but to escape. Shivering in the cold air and blinded by flashlights trained on her by her husbands family, she faced her spouse and accuser. Her in-laws treated her like a slave, Aisha pleaded. They beat her. If she hadn’t run away, she would have died. Her judge, a local Taliban commander was unmoved. Later he would tell Aisha’s uncle that she had to be made an example of lest other girls in the village tried to do the same thing. The commander gave his verdict, and men moved in to deliver the punishment. Aisha’s brother in-law held her down, while her husband pulled out a knife. First he sliced off her ears, then he started on her nose. Aisha’s passed out from the pain, but awoke soon after choking on her own blood. The men had left her on the mountainside to die. This didn’t happen 10 years ago when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. It happened last year. Now hidden in a secret woman’s shelter in the relative safety of Kabul, where she was taken after receiving care from US forces, Aisha recounts her tale in monotone, her eyes flat and distant.
The story basically states that Afghanistan is not ready for the US Army to pull out, and that incidents like this are an indication that similar atrocities would happen should the US Army pull out. The author quotes several local people expressing their concerns that the departure of US forces would cause similar atrocities.
Those of us who are familiar with the body of knowledge left behind by Dr. Wilhelm Reich, which is known as Orgonomy, would read this analysis with bitter regret and amazement. We, by the virtue of our familiarity with orgonomic principles, know that distortions of character are the reasons for the irrational, sadistic and sick behavior of people. These distortions are produced in families who raise their children in an anti-sexual and authoritarian manner. These families produce sickness en masse. Authoritarian upbringing of children distorts their characters and makes them ready for dictatorship. These families produce and perpetuate anti-sexual, dictatorial, chauvinistic and fascistic ideologies and changing it is not possible by military force.
Orgonomy teaches us that every dictator can be killed, not by military force, but by enlightenment of the masses which will dry down the springs from which dictators draw their power. The power of a dictator springs from masses of people who, because of their own emotional emptiness, turn to a leader who promises to make them feel worthy again. Authoritarian families that demand obedience from their children and do not give them the possibility of change according to the time they are living in by their own accord, achieve this goal by sexual oppression. Sexual oppression and dictatorial, authoritarian families and regimes are inseparable from each other and they go hand in hand. One can not exist without the other. We believe that fundamental changes in countries like Afghanistan, and for that matter all over the world should start with a familiarity by masses of people with the human psychological structure, particularly with the phenomena of emotional and physical armoring of human structure.
But how can we in the United States introduce these principles, which carry in them the seeds of emotional health and consequently the seeds of liberty and freedom to the rest of the world, if we ourselves in the United States of America have not adequately valued and studied such scientific principles. When we in the United States have closed our eyes and passed by the theories that have been set forth some 60 years ago, because it conflicted with our own structure, when we in the United States have failed to study the emotional structure of human beings, the theories that teach us how anti-sexual and authoritarian upbringing of children leaves them with emotional distortions and causes armoring and in turn causes all sorts of psychotic, neurotic and characterological sicknesses and causes emotional plague, causes war and destruction. When we still in the United States advocate abstinence before marriage in the height of the sexual urge and strength of youth, then how can we teach others to respect the emotional growth of children and adolescents so that they would not turn to emotionally scarred, sick and distorted individuals with inhuman sadistic impulses like one who mutilates Ayesha’s face.
In Reich Speaks of Freud, Dr.Reich said “I assure you that there is no solution to this world’s problems unless this point is cleared up. Sociologically, politically, economically, psychologically, structurally, characterologically in any single respect I do not belive that there will be a solution of any social problem as long as children and adolescents grew up with stasis of biological energy.
Military presence in any part of the world is not going to change the sadistic, barbaric impulses in the already distorted and sick population. A military presence may for a short time suppress it, but we must be interested in eradicating the impulse rather than suppressing it to a limited extent and waiting for the next explosion, the next full blown war, etc. Medical institutions and those who deal with the health of the human structure in this respect carry a major responsibility. Everyone today realizes the significance of nutrition, significance of adequate vitamins and the significance of childhood vaccinations and environmental hygiene to prevent infections, etc. No one will challenges today the value of these measures in providing health for the public. In fact goverments of the countries around the world try to follow these medical suggestions to promote the health of their nation . This is because the medical profession has introduced principals of health and hygine to the world . The question then arises isn’t it possible that one day, war and atrocities as we see today on the front page of Time magazine, could also be eradicated? From our point of view, from the orgonomic point of view, it certainly can. To achive this goal, however it is necessary that medical and psychiatric institutions, and teaching institutions first themselves recognize the significance of human psychological health and the root causes of its distortions. The first requirement however, is the courage to recognize their own antisexual armor and the hypocracy that goes with it.
Enlightening article, thank you for having the courage to speak out on such issues and to bring light to the real issue at hand and the solution which, as you say is not military suppression but rather a deeper understanding of the human psyche through Orgonomy. How would you suggest implementing this on the scale of what we are facing in Afghanistan for example?
Thanks to Dr. Fischer for supportive and encouraging comment and thought provoking and stimulating question.
Dr. Fischer questions “how would you suggest implementing this on the scale of what we are facing in Afghanistan for example?”
Reich in The Function of the Orgasm in the first chapter under the general survey states “Mental hygiene on the mass scale requires the power of knowledge against the power of ignorance; the power of vitally necessary work against every form of parasitism whether of an economic, intellectual or philosophical nature. Taking itself seriously, natural science can become a citadel against those forces, which destroy life, no matter who perpetuates this distraction or where. Quite obviously, there is no one person who possesses the knowledge necessary to safeguard the natural function of life. The scientifically rational view of life excludes dictatorship and demands work democracy”
Dr.Reich earlier in the same chapter states, “The character structure of modern man, who reproduces a six thousand year old patriarchal authoritarian culture, is typified by characterological armoring against his inner nature and against the social misery which surrounds him. This characterological armoring is the basis of isolation, indigence, craving for authority, fear of responsibility, mystical longing, sexual misery, the neurotically impotent rebelliousness as well as pathological tolerance. Man has alienated himself from, and has grown hostile toward life. This alienation is not of biological but of socioeconomic origin. It is not found in the stages of human history prior to the development of patriarchy.”
We are not under any illusion that six thousand years of the process of armoring and authoritarian upbringing of generations can be resolved quickly in one generation. However as Reich states, we think that the only way is dissemination of knowledge. As masses of people become enlightened, as masses of people become familiarized more with the theories and concepts of Orgonomy, they will be prone to change and movement will follow this knowledge. This change will happen gradually and slowly. Initially orgonomic knowledge will face intense antagonism as it has been historically known by the heavily armored men and women. however, in this process of antagonism and disagreements and conflict, the armoring would loosen up and changes will take place. We are happy to be pioneers in planting the seeds of this change. We are happy to be the messengers, we are happy to be those who keep the flame of this knowledge alive and pass it to the next generations.
This ghastly account makes me want to see this site translated to Afghan/Pashto language tomorrow and mirrored in every search engine, every school , every home with a computer in Afghanistan…there is commercial server software that automatically translates/mirrors sites around the world…. We are seeing in places like the Middle East and China that censorship by regimes is becoming ever more difficult because of our friend the internet..
We are talking about forces of energy here. Like you say, the masses must shift, meaning massive shifts of armor. Mystics talk about the old story:forces of evil and devil vs. the forces of God and good. Orgonomic science brings understanding of this old story. Life energy systems that are more free struggling against life energy systems which succumb to armor. The sex-emotional motivations are diverted into stifling contractions and resulting obscene amounts of underlying anger and frustration.Yet every new baby infant born to a Taliban fighter fights his own natural war, coming out kicking and screaming against the oppression and armoring around him. Inevitably there is then the resignation. Reich’s work is a phenomenal revolutionary tool for the human organism to undermine that resignation. The first step is infiltration of Orgonomic knowledge and truth to give people’s natural instinctual fight some support. This will start to dislodge the false bastions, the false legitimacies of oppressive psychology and behavior handed down from the previous generation. Then change can follow on a deeper level. Lets make sure the children of the Taliban and others in this part of the world can access information about Orgonomy. One step would be an Afghan language version of The Journal of Psychiatric Orgone Therapy!
