Physiological Corroboration of Orgonomic Theory of Vegetative Centers

In the book “The Function of Orgasm”, under the topic of pleasure (expansion) and anxiety (contraction) Reich states:

“In the course of the demonstration of the two directions of biological energy, a fact has become apparent to which until now we have paid little attention. Up to now, we have a clear picture of the vegetative periphery. However, the place is not defined where the biological energy becomes concentrated as soon as an anxiety state occurs. There must be a vegetative center, from which the bio-electric energy originates and to which it returns. This question brings us to certain well-known facts of physiology. The abdominal cavity, the well-known seat of the emotions, contains the generators of biological energy. They are large centers of the autonomic nervous system, particularly the solar plexus, the hypogastric plexus and the lumbosacral or pelvic plexus. A glance at the diagram of the vegetative nervous system shows that the vegetative ganglia are densest in the abdominal and genital regions. The following diagrams show the functional relationship between center and periphery:” (1)

In medical physiology, this assumption of Dr. Reich attributing the above-mentioned function to vegetative ganglia in the abdominal region has not been documented and is unknown. This theoretical assumption although, answers many puzzling questions and proving itself correct in the clinical sense, however, except Dr. Reich’s own bioelectrical experiments which to some extent supports this theory, no other experiment confirms or refutes this theory. However, this author has found one physiological report which although was designed to prove a different objective but also does corroborate this orgonomic assumption. A paper written in 1961, and published in the “Journal of Physiology of USSR”, entitled “Electro physiological Analysis of Excitation, Conduction in the Solar Plexus Ganglia. Authored by “O.N. Zamyatina” corroborates and supports Dr. Reich’s assumption about the bioelectrical impulses emitting from vegetative ganglia and returning back to it. The paper under the topic of conclusion under item 4 states the following:

“After the separation of solar plexus ganglia from the central nervous system, efferent impulses are retained in the axons of the post ganglionic neurons. This impulse indicates the presence of tonic activity in the ganglion cells, which can be considered, on one hand, a manifestation of ganglia’s own automatism, and on the other hand, a result of direct afferent influences from the receptors of the internal organs to the ganglion cells.”
